For the last four years I have been working as an independent doula. For the most part it has been wonderful. I choose how many births I take and how far willing to drive for a client. I don’t have to consult with anyone else when I make decisions about my business cards or website. I am my own boss. Unfortunately, there are some downsides to working on my own. Although have wonderful doula community in this area, it is sometimes difficult to secure reliable backup just in case something happened beyond control. Although make creative decisions on my own, I have often found the work of keeping up with the business side of my work to be a bit overwhelming.
Earlier this week, I found the solution that I have been looking for. A wonderful collective of women that I highly respect asked me to join them in Tree Town Doulas. I couldn’t be more excited to be working with such a wonderful group of people. Martha was actually doula for my second baby. In addition to being a birth doula she also does placenta encapsulation and is a postpartum doula. Anna was one of the homebirth midwives for my little boy. She is master of herbs and fabulous doula. Catherine is very well respected resource for parents in Ann Arbor area. She teaches parenting class in addition to attend births. I am humbled that they would invite me to join them, but I am so excited. It will push me to better doula and to explore more areas of birth world. Also excited have wonderful team to back me up this ever time that cannot for my clients.
There will few changes for Doula Toni. My service area may become a bit smaller and my prices will go up bit. The value for clients, is much greater. The resources and security this team will bring me will make it much easier for me to devote myself completely to my clients. This new chapter in my life is exciting and can’t wait to see where it goes.
